Sellafield is looking to engage with manufacturers about the future procurement of waste containers and other high-volume products.
Sellafield Ltd, the organisation responsible for the UK’s largest and most challenging decommissioning site, recently created a new commercial body called the Manufacturing Products Partnership (MPP) to manage procurement of all future products. These will include the standard 3m3 boxes for intermediate-level waste, other waste containers and supporting components such as can racks, with a total value of around £2 billion over the next 20 years.
MPP aims to start releasing contracts for these products from 2028, but first wants to understand the current state of the market and the appetite from manufacturers, and share information about upcoming opportunities with interested companies.
“This is an excellent opportunity for the UK supply chain to engage and be a part of a long term partnership with Sellafield,” says Quder Hussain, the Nuclear AMRC’s business development manager for the decommissioning market. “If you are interested in exploring the possibility of becoming a supply chain partner with Sellafield, I’d advise you to engage with the MPP team as a priority.”
The MPP page at the Government Contracts Finder site details the full range of manufactured products and expected demand, with a questionnaire form for companies to register interest and share information about their capabilities. The consultation is open until March 2024.
